But we will not survive if we continue to go against nature." - Dalai Lama _ Admiring the cave dwellings at Mesa Verde National Park in southwest Colorado, USA. _ These are the best preserved Ancestral Puebloan archaeological sites in the United States. With more than 4,300 sites, including 600 cliff dwellings, it is the largest archaeological preserve in the country. _ The area was originally settled around 7500 BCE but these dwellings were only built in the 12th century CE. By 1285, following a period of social and environmental instability driven by a series of severe and prolonged droughts, they abandoned the area and moved south to locations in Arizona and New Mexico. _ This unique location reminds me of how our destiny is so intricately entwined with our environment. And we have to do everything possible to preserve our planet not for our sake, but for our children and grandchildren. _ #mesaverde #archeology @visitdurango

Here we are, at the top of majestic Rothorn, Switzerland. _ We took 2 cable cars to reach the stunning summit, 2,865 meters (9,400 feet) above sea level. It’s called the Mountain of 1000 peaks 🌬️ for very good reason. _ The best way to descend was via giant all-terrain scooters called Lenzi Bikes, our kids loved the thrilling off-road experience. While helmets provided some physical protection, it’s times like those I’m glad we’ve got Mastercard to protect us online against unauthorized transactions. And for that I am grateful." - Elizabeth Edwards _ Meteor Crater in Arizona is the best preserved impact crater on earth. _ At 170 meters (560 ft) deep and 1.186 kilometers (0.737 mi) in diameter, this photo doesn't do it justice - this thing is massive! _ 50,000 years ago an nickel-iron meteor measuring just 50 meters (160 feet) across hit the earth at a blazing speed of around 20km (13 miles) per second. The heat generated by the impact was so intense it vaporized most of the meteor. _ Located 37 miles (60 km) east of Flagstaff, it really is in the middle of nowhere but I'm so glad we took the side trip on our #BenderGoRVing trip earlier this year to explore this unique location. Ancient walls in Thessaloniki - Greece’s 2nd largest city. _ These beautifully ornate fortifications were built by the Byzantines around 390AD and still stand today. _ There are few places in the world where the evidence of colliding empires is so vivid as this particular city. With over 2,300 years of civilization, this region has been home to ancient Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Ottomans and finally modern Greeks. Each empire left its mark both culturally and materially – in the architecture, in the food, in the way of life. _ Thessaloniki has been the cradle of innovation in ancient times and still flows with the same creative energy today. _ #ancientgreece

This is one of the oldest continuously inhabited towns in Greece. _ In Kastro the Archaeological Museum of Sifnos holds ancient artifacts from Greece's Archaic (6th century BC) and Hellenistic (2nd century BC) periods. Well-preserved sculptures bring the tales of ancient Greece to life unlike anything else. The Parthenon. _ But this isn't Greece... It's @visitmusiccity (Nashville, Tennessee). _ This full-scale copy of the original Parthenon in Athens was originally built in 1897. Inside is a 42 foot (13 m) tall statue of Athena Parthenos. A must-see attraction when visiting Nashville. Oh, and across the road is a delicious BBQ hole-in-the-wall... Hog Heaven.
