Living Life On The Edge: Hanging Out Of A Train In Sri Lanka
Hanging out the door of a moving train was never on my bucket list, but I suddenly realised how preposterous that had been. Everyone needs to hang out of a train at some point in their life.

This sanctuary is home to 79 bears. Spread over 69 hectares, it opened in 2005 with just 3 bears. As Romania prepares to enter the EU, their zoos must be brought up to scratch. The zoos that are unable to do that often put down these beautiful creatures. This sanctuary was established to rescue those bears. Very heart-warming. #romania
Romania's most famous icon - Bran Castle, Transylvania. Home to the legend of Bram Stoker's 1897 novel... Dracula! Purely a work of fiction, but some similarities to Vlad III (also known as Vlad the Impaler). Did you know this castle is for sale? BYO coffin I'm sure. #romania #brancastle #transylvania

Lapland Christmas: An Evening With The Elves

Rovaniemi: The Ultimate Family Christmas
We’ve celebrated Christmas in Australia, the South Pacific, New York and Bethlehem. What could possibly top any of those? Well I heard about one place. A very, very magical place. And like a dog gnawing on a juicy bone, I became fixated on a dreamy Christmas that would top all the others. It could only be in the one-of-a-kind: Rovaniemi, Finland.

Inside the Kota... Steaming hot berry juice, gingerbread biscuits and grilled sausages. Mmmmmmm... On our snowmobile tour around the winter wonderland that is northern Finland, we stopped at this traditional wooden teepee called a Kota. #laplandxmas

Husky Sledding In Lapland: My Favourite Safari In Rovaniemi
I couldn’t feel the cold. The predominately white landscape whooshed by me in unadulterated purity and secluded frostiness. Paradoxically, I felt complete stillness and unrestrained speed at the same time. It was the ultimate family Christmas. A Lapland winter paradise.

This is it. The official office of Santa Claus in Lapland, Finland. It doesn't get any more sacred for kids under 7 than this. And even better, it's free to enter and meet Santa himself. And this is no ordinary Santa. He can speak 20 languages, is super sharp in conversation and even had adults convinced that he's the real deal. Oh, and his hands were super supple. I don't know what moisturiser he's using, but it's magic. #laplandxmas #VisitFinland #visitrovaniemi

"Never let the amazing become familiar". Being pulled on a sleigh by a reindeer in Rovaniemi, Finland. I have to remind myself sometimes this is not a dream. Such a fun experience for our family. There are over 200,000 reindeer in Lapland, Finland. Each of them have an owner, even if they roam free around the countryside. And 36% of land in northern Finland is designated reindeer pasture irrespective of land ownership. Incredible! #laplandxmas #VisitFinland #visitrovaniemi

"eyes are the window to the soul." And in this case our husky friend has a warm, gentle soul. Such a wonderful experience getting up close to these friendly, energetic creatures in Rovaniemi, Finland. #laplandxmas #VisitFinland #visitrovaniemi
Riding in a sleigh with 8 huskies in Rovaniemi, Finland. Awesome! Definitely our highlight from Christmas in Lapland - the official home of Santa Claus. The white husky, named Luna, on the left was Mia's favourite. #VisitFinland #laplandxmas #visitrovaniemi

Tunnel vision. Exploring the historic island of Suomenlinna, just over 1km from the centre of Helsinki, Finland. The island has around 150 hidden tunnels and holds many fascinating secrets. It's also one of the most popular destinations when visiting the Finnish capital. #VisitFinland #visithelsinki #laplandxmas

Christmas markets in Helsinki, Finland. Under Helsinki Cathedral in the Senate Square, comes together a fine collection of Xmas stalls each December. So many yummy food samples to try - gingerbread, fudge, berries and more. #helsinki #VisitFinland #visithelsinki
The most widely recognised bridge in the world needs no introduction. But we were able to see a different side of it recently by walking along the top of the bridge! Our London Pass cards gave us free access to The Tower Bridge Exhibition. Highly recommended! #london #towerbridge

9 Things To Do With Kids In Vienna, Austria
Although the city of Vienna has a well-known history associated with classical music, operas and art, it is also home to schnapps, Swarovski Crystals, and psychoanalysis. All the sorts of things that most young children will yawn at. But we still found plenty to amuse, entertain and educate our kids in the 5 days we spent in Vienna. Here’s how we did it.

Frost! Looking out from the front door of our cottage near Machynlleth, Wales a couple days ago. The ground was covered in white. The car was covered in white. And the hills were a golden amber. Just perfect. Winter has really arrived. #wales #frost

Hiking up the mountain near Barmouth, Wales along a route called "Panorama Walk". It is known as "the most beautiful view in Wales". That's a hard call since every corner of #Wales we experienced was breathtaking. But this view is certainly worth soaking up. Today we finished our epic Wales road trip and are driving through England for a couple days before flying to Finland to meet Santa (the real one!). Keep an eye on travelwithbender.com in a couple weeks when we publish our epic road trip blog post 😃 Thank you for sharing our adventures.
"Pick yourself up and try again..." 🎶 At "Bounce Below" in Llechwedd Slate Caverns, Wales. This awesome place is made of giant springy nets suspended within a massive cave 160 feet above the ground. Such awesome fun. Subscribe to our YouTube channel (TravelWithBender) because when the video is uploaded soon you won't want to miss it. I get pushed by my 4-year-old son down a steep 60-foot chute. If you're in the UK, you have to check out this place. #wales #bouncebelow

Standing strong for centuries - Harlech Castle, Wales. Home of Edward I, construction started in 1282 and with a grand cost of £8,190. UNESCO considers it one of "the finest examples of late 13th century and early 14th century military architecture in Europe". I have to agree. #wales #castle
